Shannon,

Man it's been years! I remember back in our high school days sitting around and you picking on your guitar or writing a song.
And in college how I almost killed us when I fell asleep driving that early morning on the way to Austin.
Glad you have followed your dream! Sounds like you're working really hard at it and it's paying off!

Hey darlin.. I had to find out just who the Texas Rocket is.

I'm wondering if the Texas buddy Michael Martin is the same Michael J Martin is the very same that wrote a song about my family years ago... Mammamia and Whippoorwille. I'd love to know for sure. I lost touch with him and I'd love to catch up with Michael J.. if it is my Michael J. Please ask him if he remembers Mom and Pop Phillips.. I would be Baby CJ.. BTW... great site..

Great story about Robert Plant! Mine goes like this:

I was working crew for the Robert Plant concert at the Ryman Auditorium earlier this year, and during the downtime before the show, I was backstage and needed to use the bathroom, which was on the 3rd floor. So I go up and turn the corner, and there's Robert Plant, talking on a cellphone, with his back to me... he spins around as soon as he hears me, shoots me the most rock'n'roll look you've ever seen, and I say "Hey" and walk on to the bathroom.

It's amazing how far we've come and how different everything has turned out. Sixteen years ago, when we moved into the dorm, I believed that someday I would read about your success' and smile. It has been a long time since the days of the dorm and late night runs to the border, but finally I have read about the career of my long lost friend and smile with great pride at his accomplishments. Congrats my brother!

Thank you for the recent schedule update. I want to express my appreciation for all that you and your wife are doing for the hurricane victims. I realize you are putting your music on hold for now and focusing on those less fortunate. Word has it that you've written a song dealing with the recent disaster. Will you be posting that on your website? Please let us know.

Shannon,
Even though we only met a few times, I congratulate you on forging ahead with your musical dreams. I was the same way about attending grad school and I'm glad I did. While working on my doctorate at UT, I actually took courses on folk/country music and pop culture, so am somewhat familiar with the scene. Also, one of my cousins drummed for Gatemouth Brown for a few years. I don't think I can make the Poor David's gig but am sure I'll get an update from some other SMU folks.

Hey Rocket! I've been watching you for a long time and I can't tell you how excited I am to see you following the dream that I was too scared and insecure to follow myself. I am proud as anyone can be that you have taken the gloves off. You are so talented and such an incredible person. That combination is rare. If I can give you just a few tidbits of wisdom for your journey...Don't ever look back...there's nothing there...don't ever give up...your gift is to share...don't listen to the critics...they've been wrong before...always trust in God...give Him glory for sure...there's a rainbow ahead of you...your wife sees it too...stand tall, but stay humble...together you cannot lose. Finally be wise as a serpent but remain gentle as a dove, for God is on your side, and nothing can stop His love. Good luck my friend, and always remember, I'm watching you and praying for the success you are so deserving of.
